Top 10 Tips for 2018!

Here it is, straight from our organizers’ desks. Their Top Ten Tips, suggestions, and veteran moves to make your Mamby weekend as breezy as the shores of Oakwood Beach, optimized for 2018. Read below and prepare yourselves to Mamby as one.

1. Get Here Easily & Breezily!

There’s a beautiful bike path that leads from downtown to our beloved Oakwood Beach. Take advantage of it while saving the planet and your health! Or save your energy for the dance floor and take the CTA to the Cermak/Chinatown Red Line stop or Cermak-McCormick Place Green Line stop, where Free Shuttles are running all day long to whisk you away to Mamby.

Yet another option is taking an Uber, Lyft, or Taxi to our designated pick-up drop-off location just steps from the fest gates. Lastly you can drive to our parking lot, located just off Lake Shore Dr. South and 31st St., in the McCormick Marshalling Yard Lot, for just $15/day. Our Getting Here page has complete details for all options on getting to Mamby Beach.

2. Ticketing Details: Don’t Get Scammed

Unlike our other popular festival, there are NO wristbands that have been sent out and NO advance credentials for media, artists, all access, press, guests, or otherwise available anywhere. If you see someone is advertising they have some for sale, IT IS A SCAM! All tickets are either mobile or print-at-home.

The Box Office will be open from 11:00am – 9:00pm on June 23rd and June 24th. If you purchase a 2-day ticket, you will use that same ticket to get into the festival each day. So hang on to your ticket! The barcode will reset and will scan as new and valid each day. If you are the original ticket purchaser, and you lose your ticket after the first day, you will need to go to Customer Service at the Box Office to get a new ticket. Tickets cannot be replaced if you are not the original purchaser. If you purchased a VIP ticket, be sure to enter through the designated express VIP lane at the gates each day and you will receive your wristband for entry into the VIP areas after your ticket scans as valid. You will still need your VIP ticket to scan at the gates each day. Wristbands will not gain you entry into the festival.

3. New Bag Policy! Pay Attention To Prohibited / Allowed Items

We politely ask that you limit the number of items you bring with you, as all attendees will be searched upon entry. More items means longer security lines. We have also updated our security regulations for 2018, particularly concerning backpacks (single pockets, nothing greater than 12” x 12” in size, standard camelbaks are OK) and water bottles (one single-serving bottle, factory sealed, per person is allowed). See the full list HERE and feel free to email info@mambyonthebeach.com with any questions. We also have Lockers for Rent with cell charging for items you don’t want to carry.

4. Go Green! We’re skipping paper booklets in favor of our app.

In an effort to reduce waste, we are not printing any fest guide booklets. So the official app, now available free for download on iPhone or Android, will be your #1 resource while at the festival. It’s an indispensable direct line to the organizers for announcements, set times, the More Than Music Schedule, news, and more. In the possible, but unlikely, event of poor cell coverage, we recommend screenshotting each day’s lineup just before you enter the fest.

5. Don’t forget, Mamby is More Than Music, returning with new additions!

Water balloon fights, Yoga sessions, Palm Readings, Body Tattoos, Volleyball games, Health and Wellness workshops, Poetry Readings, and so much more! Our signature ‘More Than Music’ series returns to Mamby once again, revitalizing your festival experience and giving you a chance to recharge your batteries, learn something new, or get involved. This year we’re ecstatic to add a Ferris Wheel, Doggie Dome, Gong Baths, a full-service FREE Barbershop, and a Complimentary Advice Booth. You can read all about our new additions and the full slate of activities HERE.

6. Don’t miss our brand new Community Center!

As a festival, Mamby celebrates all things that make Chicago great and its patchwork of neighborhoods are a key element to that greatness. In Bronzeville and Hyde Park, Mamby has been welcomed by two of our city’s most culturally diverse communities and rich with music, spoken word, and performing arts. They also happen to be home to numerous socially conscious non-profits that are dedicated to affecting positive social change in our hometown and beyond.

This year, we’re happy to welcome them to Mamby in a central role, as the core for our Community Center. Featuring performances from the likes of Young Chicago Authors, The Common Ground Foundation, Final Alert Dance Team, Haven Studios, and more, along with a Non-Profit Village featuring OurMusicMyBody, M.U.R.A.L. (formerly the Lupe Fiasco Foundation), Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Mother Against Senseless Killings (MASK), LeadersUp, and more. Learn all about it here.

7. Prepare for Weather + Beach / Stay Hydrated!

Historically, Mamby has been blessed with beautiful Summer weather. That said, it’s Chicago, and the forecast can change with quickness — be prepared for both sun and rain. We recommend bringing sunscreen, a floppy hat for shade, and maybe a poncho if rain pops up in the forecast. Umbrellas will not be allowed. Also remember to take advantage of our Free Water Refill station located with a happy water drop on the MAP! It’s happy because it’s hydrated 😉

8. Get Your VIP Upgrades in the Info Booth

Tiki Bars. So hot right now. And the Tiki Bar Lounge at Mamby is no exception. It’s just one of many advantages to going VIP at Mamby including preferred viewing decks of each stage, private premium bars, water access, and premium food and drink selections not available in GA! Mamby is the only festival in Chicago where VIP attendees are allowed to swim while listening to their favorite bands. If you get jelly, VIP Upgrades will be available at the Info Booth at the fest, but act fast – they are only available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

9. Go To A Cool Afterparty (or several!)

The fest ends at 10pm, but that doesn’t mean your night has to! We have a handful of intimate afterparties with some of our best DJs and producers on the lineup at Chicago’s favorite night clubs. Get your tickets and secure the perfect late night adventure to your festival weekend! Check out all the after parties HERE.

10. Mamby Is Chicago: Best Enjoyed Together.

It is a true blessing to put together such a special yearly event for friends, family, and our community. It takes a lot of hard work and the support of you, the fans, to make this to happen. We graciously ask that you keep the energy positive and high this weekend, and party with a responsible conscious, as well as respect the surrounding neighborhood when you enter and leave. We’re all in this together. If you see someone that needs help, please don’t hesitate to contact a staff member. You will not get in trouble for raising concerns about another’s health or immediate wellbeing. Keep an eye on your friends and report any behavior that feels out of place on the beach. Our community makes our festival what it truly is, and when we work together, amazing times are inevitable. Here’s to another great year – see you on the beach!
